has ronaldo been out of any of the games we lost? has rooney featured in so many games this season? didnt he have like two injuries already this season? to me its simple, ronaldo is the better player. He doesnt perform on the big stage? euro 2004? world cup 2006? best young player in both tournaments.....but ofcourse he doesnt perform....okay he hasnt been performing in the big games in the PL this season but if your trying to tell me that rooney performs better in the big games than ronaldo in the champions league your having a laugh.....

ronaldo has the mentality and ability to perform at the very highest stage, rooney doesnt have the mentality to perform outside of england imo....in spain he'll be sent off every other week because he will be no better technically than the average spanish/SA player and in italy he'll have no space at all to perform.

And about if ronaldo wasnt there than rooney and tevez would be scoring more goals...thats a bizzare thing to say imo....its not like ronaldo is stopping the others from scoring, he plays out wide for starters....rooney and tevez play through the middle, credit to ronaldo for scoring all these goals is what people should be saying, not by him scoring the others cannot...hmmmmm

ronaldo is considered one of the best players in the world....is rooney one of the best strikers in the world let alone players? not convinced...i think his definately one of the best strikers on ability in the PL...but he needs to improve, ppl are always so quick to hype rooney and bring down ronaldo, every bad game ronaldo has is like a new oppurtunity to take a dig at him imo, thats how hated he is in the PL....but if your ask around europe, its all ronaldo, ronaldo, ronaldo. milan, inter, barca and real madrid would all take ronaldo if they had even the slightest chance....they would think alot harder before taking rooney believe me, simply because is he the best in his position let alone one of the best players in the world?

ronaldo = one of the top 3 players in the world, top 5 no questions........rooney is not in that category

and about ronaldo needing rooney more than rooney needing ronaldo, we were top of the league or just abouts for pretty much the whole season throughout all these injuries rooney has had! where did u get that idea from?!? ronaldo doesnt need rooney at all but UNITED as a team player better when they are both in the team because they have a great understanding and good footballers understand each other, they are both quick too and have played together for many years so they know each other greatly...

we should be glad we have both but if im totally honest, ronaldo is the better individual player....

Ill second that....great post United OG
Its changed my view entirely.
I guess we just love Rooney more than Ronaldo so we tend to knock Ronnie when he has a bad game. All the best have bad games once in a while.
Its not as if Rooney has been even playing well this season or even last to some extent.
Im happy we have both lads in our team and long may it continue.

Personally, if I had to choose... I love Roon. I've always been a fan of his more so than Ronaldo. Just a personal preference.

It's impossible to say what kind of club we are or would be without either. They are both critical to our success. Take any machine and change or remove a part - it doesn't work the same. Football teams are the same

by the way i hope you all don't think im taking a dig at rooney. I think without doubt he is one of the best talents to come through british football in a long long time. Naturally gifted with a ball and smart for a striker, knows where to move into and for all the chances he seems to be missing when his on top form, he finishing is not half bad at all. I wouldnt be suprised if rooney stayed fit for a whole season and had a good pre-season behind him that he would end up the top scorer in the league or atleast for united. I just worry sometimes because he gets so angry so quick and like all players there is still alot of room for improvement.

By the way being banned for the manchester derby may give rooney some extra energy for the match against arsenal, im sure he would not have enjoyed sitting the derby game out when he probably felt he could have made a different. I expect a big performance from him against arsenal because i think wenger will try to snuff out ronaldos threat because he seems to always be a threat against arsenal, whether it be assists or goals.

Rooneys strenght could also be vital, i know tevez is strong too but rooneys got pace to go with his power and i think he will be a nightmare for arsenal.

Just thought i'd add that just incase people start to think im some sort of anti rooney guy or something. I am actually a huge rooney fan and we should be proud we have both ronaldo and rooney. United wouldnt be half as exciting to watch without these 2 players, because the few times they are both on top form and both playing together, its really something to watch!

anyways im off to bed, take care ppl

you have articulated your point well but we seem destined to agree to disagree. still that's what this forum is about and long may it continue.

first of all may i take you back to the interview he done last week. To paraphrse him he talked about being the best player in the world. The guy obviously set himself up for the big fall that was last Sunday's display. He needs to learn humility and fast. I accept that he is only 23 but thissort of infantile nonsense only stutters his development as a person and as a player.Even fergie talked about what's poisoning the game is glory hunters pushing teammates out of gthe way after scoring to milk all the adulation of the fans.

now to respond to your post! You make the point that Ronny has the mentality and temperament to perform on the big occasion. With the exception of the 4-2 game against arsenal at Highbury in 05 He has consistently underachieved against liverpool, arsenal and Chelski. He produces the odd special moment like the goal and assist at ghe emirates in November but thes flashes do not mask his overall contribution which is neglible on the big occasion.Same in Europe where, roma home game apart last season, he is simply ineffective against the top defenders on the continent. okay this season he has scored 5 goals and been a lot more prominent but lets get perspective here- it was against mediocre sides like spartak moscow, lisbon etc. the jury is still out until he faces real teams like ac milan.

in saying all that ronaldo is the wolrds best player against average sides that for example make up the bulk of the premiership. But even at that he was playing in 2 of our losses this season-last Sunday and the west ham game where guess who wasnt playing. He was below his best in those games and was lack lustre against villa in the cup til wazza came on and suddenly he and united started playing. That is why I say he needs Rooney as the latter by his mere presence inspires those around him.

rooney in contrast does not need anybody to perform consistently well as a team player. He seems to reserve his beswt performances for the big occasion e.g home game vs milan last season, last 2 cup finals ( where others were anonymous) and has never had a bad game against any of the big three. Even when by his standards he had an unexceptional season the last campaign(due mainly to unwarranted suspensions, tiredness after the world cup when he was forced to play while injured, and being played out of position) he never shirked his responsibiity and chased down lost causes covering every blade of grass in the process. His attitude is so much superior to Ronaldos in that despite being extravagantly talented, he is prepared to scrap for the team.that is why he is loved at ot and that most united fans I know and even in this debate the majority of contributors would choose the scouser over the madeira man.

In relation to what Europe think so what! It is what United fans think that counts that matters. yes rooney is more suited to a British style team and with him being a family man he wont move abroad.okay Ronaldo may adapt better to playing for a continental side but thats for another debate not this one.Even still when you mention Euro 2004 i dont recall ronaldo doing anything out of the ordinary certainly not compared to rooney who announced himself on the world scene with some breathtaking performances. As for 2006 world cup he didnt impress me that much which anyway was a poor tournament for attacking play.

i sincerely hope come may to revise what I have said here but athis moment its rooney for me

off to bed now so hope to talk more tomorrow

p.s let's all keep the faith:)

rooney. rooney still has a lot of room to improve, and i can only see him becoming a better and better player for years to come. he is still to find wat shld be his true role in a side.
we already seen wat ronaldo is capable of, and i cant see any vast improvement from his part
