Manchester United prospect Danny Welbeck believes he can become an Old Trafford great under the tutelage of Ryan Giggs.

The 18-year-old graduated to the first-team squad at the start of the season and has already scored his first goal in the Premier League.

He has also won a call-up to the England Under 21 squad, appearing as a substitute in their friendly against Ecuador.

Now the young attacker says he will look to veteran midfielder Giggs for advice on how to handle his career.

"I used to love Giggsy so much - and still do. Just seeing him in training you can learn so much from him," Welbeck told The Sun.

"He's always there to give advice, too, which is great. I could say he's my idol."

Welbeck credited the set-up at Old Trafford for his young and promising career. He thinks he may not have had the chance to make it at the top level had it not been for the club.
Dream

"I think Manchester United is the best club to be at," he added.

"It has helped me a lot. If I wasn't at United playing a few games, I don't know where I would be or at what stage I'd be at or what level.

"But just getting a few games here and there for the best club in the world has helped me get to this level."

The Manchester-born player has always supported the Red Devils and says he is currently living out his boyhood dream.

"It's what every Manchester boy dreams of," Welbeck said.

"Growing up, you just want to play for United but to score for them was out of this world. It's the Man United way of winning things.

"There's no better club than United. The way the club is run and the way the players are. Nobody is too good, everyone helps each other at the right times."

Reading his comments I think we might have got a player from our academy who may play out his career at Old Trafford. He is a fantastic prospect and it will be great to see him in the first team regularly in a few years time.

...and Giggs is my idol too.

Great read, thanks.

Shows the servant Ryan Giggs has been for United.. and great to hear appreciation from the players who have watched Giggs as a fan, and now play alongside him. I can only imagine how he would inspire a young lad finding his feet at the club. Another great for the future in Danny Welbeck.

I can not see Welbeck playing on wings. Think he should be played up top
With that much pace and ability to beat a man, why not use him on the wings? Or perhaps, like Ronaldo, he can play both?
