West Ham to bid £10m for Saha?
West Ham Set to Replace Ashton with £10m Manchester United Striker
After reporting on Sunday that West Ham's Dean Ashton could be poised to jump on the district line final - destination White Hart Lane -such a move now seems all the more probable after the Hammers line up a bid for Manchester United's Louis Saha.
Saha has only played a handful of games after the plague of injuries he has had since signing for United continued this season. After having a knee op last summer, the Frenchman has endured several setbacks during the course of the season. He's featured in just 24 matches across all competitions and only made the starting XI on 10 occasions in games against such teams as Sunderland, Bolton and Fulham and himself admits the sun is likely to set on his time at Old Trafford following the Champions League final.
With just five goals to his name, it is a wonder whether he's the best option for the Hammers. Finishing the season will a goal difference of -8, Alan Curbishley needs to add reliable firepower is they are to continue moving in the right direction. However, if we're being positive, some of the goals Saha netted were crucial in United success in retaining the title; he got the winner against Sunderland at the start of September setting the Reds back on the winning tracks after that disastrous start.
I can't help but wonder if by drafting Saha in as a replacement for Ashton Alan Curbishley is setting himself up for similar problems as he had this time. The Hammers have had the worst luck in terms of injuries this season; Ashton himself damaged knee ligaments and missed six weeks worth of matches. With Saha set to celebrate his 30th birthday this August and with his lack of regular first time football, is he going to make that much of a difference at Upton Park?
