can somebody tell me what is wrong with england?with such a great bunch of players to choose from(certainly better than 95% of teams),they never seem to produce.never even get close!and worse than the success rate is the quality of football played.it can't be blamed on any one manager as its been the same for so many.do the players not care enough?and how can any real fan boo their players at all, never mind after 38 minutes of play under a new manager???

We have a good 5 or 6 players 2 or 3 world class players. The trouble is all bout time, any manager they get in will always get same performences unless he gets a good amount of time to work on tactics and set plays, the players are so used to playing dif tactics for club hard to change for int games. Capello only had to days to work with his squad not enough time to get them playing how he wants them to. I dont see why the f.a dont cancel silly friendlys in mid season and have a week or 2 at end of season to get squad together.
sometimes its not the tactics, but the cohesivness of the team and thier ability to play smoothly with egos and playing styles clashing together. In England's point of view, most of their players play thier own game and the results is poor quality football, clashing of heads and no stability within the team
The booing after 30-odd minutes last night was ridiculous but it did seem to spur the players into action.

Last nights poor performance in the 1st half was down to a few things - lack of confidence after failing to qualify for Euro 2008, nervousness of playing under a new coach and at Wembley, having 11 players that had never started a game together before and a different formation to get used to.

I think we, eventually, overcame all of these factors to put in a good 2nd half performance. Winning breeds confidence but this is the first step on a very long road to recovery for the England team.
I hope you all don't think England will produce some thrilling football under Capello. you can forget about that. but you can be sure England will produce some effective football

That raises a point that puzzled me last night.

When Gerrard was interviewed after the game he said that one of the long-term aims of Capello was to get England playing 'exciting football when going forward'.

How are we going to do that with 1 up front and a defensive minded coach?

The only time I've seen Capello's team playing beautifull fottie was when he was manager of As Roma. Back then Roma played one of the most beautifull footballs in Europe along with us of course
most english players are average at best . we rate them a lot more highly than anyone else .

last night they looked slow in comparison to the swiss and were second to nearly all 50 50 balls so i question how much the club managers warnings about not coming back injured plays a part .

i would never play gerrard for england or lampard either as they only ever turn it on for club .

i think the fa should pay wages if player is injured on duty and the wage of the replacement negating the club managers concerns a bit . its not as if they are short of a quid is it
"how can any real fan boo their players at all, never mind after 38 minutes of play under a new manager"

I timed the start of the booing at 22 minutes! And people call us United fans fickle gloryhunters...

you jest surely. This current england team would never have played in the 70s; they are not good enough.
England don't hav a great goalkeeper, right bac, right midfielder or striker. For some reasn England fans seem to tink they hav som right to be in a major finals. I don't tink Cappello will make a difference. Attacking wise they are quite poor really. Rooney never scores for England and Owens never fit, Crouch does a job I suppose. Decent amount of goals. Every other striker is quite average. You look at the top attacking players in the Premiership and theres not many English. I do think they hav great central defence wit Rio, Terry. and cole and richards full backs is decent.
I just tink ur missin someone who like a cantona, ronaldo or zola. Someone who can work magic when the team isn't playin well.
The number of foreigners in the Premier League is definitely effecting the national team imo. I can see the national team going from bad to worse under cappello.
