Zidane / Del Piero:
we should prefer the first one, but only for the contribute to their national team. In the club, Zidane was not the best, not in Juve, and in R.Madrid neither

Fat Ronaldo:
it was very strong once, but for a too short time. Moreover, doping suspects are too strong on him

Henry and Schevchenko were the best in their period, but I prefer classy players. So...the choice is between:

Zidane
Van Basten
Maradona

(I don't consider Juventus players, of course)

Good thread...

these 5 players took my breath away and were a large reason why I love football so much. (and Barca/Juve)

Maradona, Zidane, Romario, Ronaldo, Baggio.

I think they are all in my profile as my fave players ever (united or not)
They were all geniuses.

zidane for me there none who could come close to him IMO! he had everything and if you need to find out how much an imporatant player he was look at the world cup in 2002 when france got knocked out he missed the 1st two games and then played the last with a heavily strapped leg

I don't care he may not be the best cos this forum is about your fave and mine is Shevchenko the prince of Milan, gutted when he went to Chelski but im glad a lack of playing time in the right position made mourinho look a fool, also who scored the last goal for mourinho's chelsea? Sheva!

PS close second and third are Inzaghi and Raul cos they both have achieved so much, Pippo pips it because he's a milan player too - my 2nd team

Only caught the end of Platini's career so wouldnt remember a great deal.
I heard more about him cos I have French family who idolised him.
I saw a lot of Serie A and La Liga from about 86 onwards. Either way Maradona>all

There's a few I could list:

When I was younger I was a hotshot winger, and I idolized David Beckham, and Luis Figo.

Gattuso, embodies something near and dear to me, I've never seen a player with greater drive and determination then him, his skill-set is highly underrated as well. There's not a single player I'd love to have alongside me more than him.

However, for me, there is only one.

Francesco Totti.

When I read people's "he's so overrated, he plays at a second-tier club" comments, I have to laugh. Its called loyalty folks. He refused an offer to join Milan's youth setup as a young kid. What Totti has done for Roma, is astounding, most caps, most goals in the clubs history, and took them to their first scudetto in almost 20 years.

Not to mention, his incredible footballing ability. People seem to forget that he kept Del Piero out of the Italian team. The way he's chipped so many keepers, deftly maneuvers through hordes of defenders and plays incredible balls through to teammates. His unbridled passion, commitment and quirkiness make him my favorite footballer of all time.

Some of the best goal celebrations ever, especially the "6 unica" one, not to mention the one where when his wife was pregnant, and he laid on the deck, and pushed the ball out from underneath his shirt, to simulate child birth. The "I've purged you guys again" one against Nazio. He also sucks his thumb as an ode to his baby.

He's an ambassador for UNICEF and has written some joke books for charity, in order to help raise money for needy kids.

I plan on naming my first born son Francesco as an homage to him.
