Anyone have the answer? Surely it's an honour to play for your country. I'd actually pay to play for England. I think half the players wouldn't even show if they didn't get paid to play for England.

I'd just like to add that england not being in euro 2008 will cost british economy £1.5 billion..

Think about that...

All of the sports retailers are already predicting poorer than expected results for this year - it'll get even worse for them next year.

Sales of beer, snacks etc increase hugely during major tournaments but this is unlikely to be the case next summer.

Sales of bigger and better TVs to watch it on usually increase - again this will not be the case.

This is a huge blow for the economy.

Is it though andycole? I remember Stuart Pearce said in an interview that he was stunned when talking to an unnamed england international who told him he has happier when he got his first Bentley than when he got his first England cap...

Lmfao.......Honour seems to have disappeared from the English International radar...

I blame the women and the cars and the drink.....:D

Youngsters.....that's all they care about........

It's impossible for us to say what the players are thinking but I would bet my house that Rooney and Gaz Neville are probably the two most gutted about not qualifying......and they weren't even playing......them boys play from the heart.

Mongo is a fictional planet from Flash Gordon....

I did some research and assume you mean Mongol which refers to the condition of Mongolism or Downs Syndrome - the word Mongol used to be used to describe someone as being stupid before it was frowned upon as politically incorrect....

Any time you are stuck with English again give me a shout ~I can help.

Right now I have sorted that ou for you I need to explain why you could be deemed rather stupid.

If you read the thread it says why should England players be paid....and goes on to mention that the British economy will lose 1.8 Billion pounds - to which I replied....."these failures will each get 150,000 pounds so why should they care ?"
or words to that effect.

...........why should they care that it will cost the economy 1.8 Billion pounds..........

Nobody mentioned a single word about Euro 2008 or any game for England.......

You just 'invented' it I assume.

Carly what the???

I agree with Andycole9, I think they do care, and if they don't and they'd rather the moeny that's why English football is slowly declining...

Why do they get paid? Many/Most nations pay their players to play - which I find disappointing to be honest.

Jesus Christ this is exasperating !!

This has NOTHING whatsoever to do with football - what I said is to do with the BRITISH ECONOMY !

Myself, Richards Reds and Ryder were discussing the 1.5 billion loss to the economy and NOT England players and their attitudes to football!!

I've just explained it in great detail and you missed it....

Now I have to rewrite half the bloody thread AGAIN to show you.....

OK......here is the conversation.......

Richards Reds: "I'd just like to add that England not being in Euro 2008 will cost the British economy 1.5 Billion."

Ryder: "Where did you get that figure 1.5 Billion ?"

Carly: "BBC News......These failures get 150,000 each so why should they care" [that the British economy loses 1.5 billion]

Maybe my English is so poor you don't understand me......

But I think it's quite clear I said they get the money - the economy loses 1.5 billion - and the players dont care about the economy losing 1.5 billion.

It's all there in reply number 4 ffs.....

He has read into it something that is NOT there and then decided I am a mongo or whatever he tries to say.....

I am stupid because he makes a mistake !

He never called you anything, and yes I have actually read this whole thread*omgz* I was more going 'what the' for the whole mongo/l research thing hahahahaha. Then I moved onto what I though Andycole meant by the players caring about playing for their nation more so than the money. Which yes you were talking about them not caring about the economy, but I was responding to andycole's sentiments.

England flops fill their boots: six-figure 'bonus' after Euro defeat
Last updated at 11:01am on 23rd November 2007

England footballers are to receive massive windfalls despite failing to qualify for
next summer's European Championships.

In a move which will enrage fans, players can expect to receive six-figure sums
despite crashing out of qualifying for the championships for the first time since
1984.

The pain of defeat was etched on Steven Gerrard's face at Wembley but the
England captain and the rest of the team are set to pocket up to £150,000 each
from sponsors for personal appearances

Each player's share will depend on the number of appearances. The largest sum -
believed to be around £150,000 - will be paid to Steven Gerrard who captained
England in their defeat by Croatia.

As Liverpool captain Gerrard earns an estimated £120,000 per week. Former
manager Steve McClaren is to pocket around £2.5million, despite failing to lead
the team to the Championships.

The money comes from a pool of cash paid into by sponsors such as Nationwide,
Carlsberg and National Express which is controlled by 1966, an offshoot of Simon
Fuller's 19 management company.

The FA said the money was in return for personal appearances. Since February,
the squad have donated their £1,500 match fee to charity and will do so until
2010, raising an estimated £1 million.

Today, supporter groups slammed the payments and accused players of "living in
a bubble".

Malcolm Clarke, chairman of the Football Supporters' Federation, said "Perhaps
the players should think about whether it's proper to take this cash for failing.
One of the knock-on effects of not qualifying is that the FA will have less money,
which means less funding for grassroots football. Maybe they should give their
cash to charities who support that."

Payout: Former manager Steve McClaren is to pocket around £2.5million, despite
failing to lead the team to the Championships

He added: "Some of these huge sums of money being given for failure will stick in
the throats of many supporters. It's another indicator of the huge gulf between
the world of top footballers and that of ordinary supporters."

Mark Perryman, a spokesman for the England Fans supporters' group,
said: "They're taking this money when for the 90,000 people in Wembley and
millions of people next summer is ruined. The fans watch these players earning
more in an hour than they earn in a week."

The FA said it was paying no bonuses to players. A spokesman said: "We don't
discuss player payments and wouldn't make any comment on any potential Euro
bonuses."
