We all have a different perception of what a 'World Class' player is,
but who in your opinion are the world class players at United ?

Well guess everyone will agree with Ronaldo. Then there's Rooney. Rio Ferdinand is definetly a world class defender and so is Vidic. I don't know if we can call Evra 'world class' but i can't think of a lot of left backs better than him either, that makes him one of the best and i think Tevez is wordclass too. Thats about it i think

I agree with the players the rest of you have put but I feel I must also mention Paul Scholes. He may be in the twilight of his career now but he was one of the best midfielders in the World for many years and in the Champions League semi-final he showed that he still has the ability to be the difference maker. He's one of my all-time favourite players.

Bow down to the Ginger Magician!!!

Id go along with most of what people have said so far....
Surely Edwin is world class? I would have thought so....

Edwin, Ronaldo, Rio, Evra, Vidic, Rooney, Scholes, Tevez (debatable one)
Thats 8......Id have Hargo as very close and Anderson as a future world class player.

i cant see how tevez is dabatable jazz, i think as far as a shadow striker goes there isn't a better one than tevez in the world and that includes rooney, also giggs is not world class anymore, once upon a time yes but not in the modern day :) goood thread btw :D

The world class players at the moment are ...
Ronaldo, Ferdinand, Rooney, Tevez, Vidic, Evra + Scholes (Maybe Carrick imo)
Nani and Anderson to join them in 2 years, Giggs was!

I agree about Giggs btw.
But Tevez Im still not 100% sure that he is World Class.
great player and I love him but world class? I included him in the list as a yes,
but I have a few question marks is all....

So just the 8 then is it? No more than that anyone?

Tevez is a debatable one in my opinion. He's a top class forward and has scored goals in very important matches against very good opposition for both club and country.

However, he is struggling to keep his place in the Argentina side and I'm not sure you can put him in the same bracket as Torres, Eto'o, Van Nistelrooy, Drogba etc...yet.

He's still only 23 though so plenty of time to prove himself. If he manages another good season at United next year then maybe it won't be so debatable!

Well if you consider Tevez as debatable, then isn't Van Der Sar also a debatable one? I've not been impressed with his kicking. Especially against Barcelona, his kicking was woeful. Also i think Van Der Sar is fortunate to be protected by one of the best defences in the world.

About more world class players, i would think hargreaves can be labelled as world class maybe. Also i think Carrick is very under-rated.

^^^^^VDS is a legend and is most definitely World Class.
He has been for many a year. He won the European Cup with Ajax
donkeys years ago, has been performing heroics in the Prem for years
for Fulham and now United (2001-present).
He has over 120 caps for Holland which is astonishing.
All this season he has come up with wonder saves and without making
many mistakes if even any at all.

Yes his kicking has been suspect at times, certainly against Barcelona....
but over 180 mins against one of the most attack minded teams in the world
how many goals did he let in??
Exactly ;-)

Uh....... i thought you were talking about 'current' world class players:confused: . There's no question about what he's accomplished but surely, his best years are past him. If we're talking about players in the squad who were world calss, then definitely Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville deserves a mention.

I was talking about current world class players.....
Ok I went off the beaten track a bit there but there is no denying that
Edwin is STILL World Class.
To me he is as solid and agile as ever. Fair enough his kicking has waned
somewhat but it hasnt cost us, so wheres the problem?

Anyone else have a view on Vds? World class or not? (at this point in time)

Anyone who saw the Arsenal game would appreciate that VDS is still world class. True his kicking has been poor of late but even the great Schmeichel had a few weak ones. I disagree that the defence bail him out, am sure Wes and Rio would disagree as well.

People take a lot of his work for granted, his positional work is exceptional and I would pick him ahead of every other Prem keeper including Cech.

As a fellow keeper though, I understand well that it is a thankless task and i'm barely half as good as VDS :)

|Absolutely Scholes... I cant believe it took 3 posts to mention him!!! still one of THE BEST midfield players in the world!!!
plus...
Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, Rio, Vidic, Evra (definitely best left back in the world!), VDS still there, Id also put hargreaves in here he's one of the best in his specialised position!

Thats it... and transfer speculation regarding 2nd or even 3rd rate player such as those Wigan muppets isn't going to make that list grow!! I will be sick if we sign nobodies like that, just as sick as I was when I heard how much we spent on Carrick, second rate for that kind of money is ridiculous!!

All out for Benzema this summer!

Carrick... ????? I don't believe a player who would struggle to get into Villa's midfield can have any hope of ever being regarded as WORLD CLASS!
