I was just thinking of the worst managerial decisions ever made. Whether it be squad selection or team selection.

Eriksson bringing Theo Walcott having never seen him play and the lack of strikers is up there for me.
Torres coming off in the game at SB. He clearly wasn't injured and may have cost Liverpool a chance at the Champions League final.
Brian Kerr taking off Robbie Keane for Graham Kavanagh when we were 2-0 up at home to Israel. We ended up drawing 2-2.

If I think of any more I'll re-post. Interesting to see what the responses will be. What bout SAF can't really think of one major decision he got wrong. What bout our opposition, or International teams.

What about that Villa player i think it was. The manager put him on the bench having never seen him train or play. Put him on in the 65th minute or around then. Had to bring him off a few minutes later on discovering he wasn't a footballer at all!

It was for Southampton I think back in 91 or 92. Some guy pretended to be
George Weah and said his cousin was amazing and could he play for them.
lol he got subbed on and then off about 10 minutes later cos he was worse than
my nan :D could barely kick the ball ffs.....:p

Brilliant. I heard something bout him before, did they not see him train. lol. I wouldn't say selling Stam and not buying Van der Saar were huge managerial mistakes.

How about Steve McClaren playing 3-5-2 against Croatia I think. He played Gary Neville Right wing-back, crazy stuff.

I was thinking buying Shevchenko was but I don't think any1 realised he could be so bad.

Managers aside it was crazy to get rid of Bruce. Birmingham were doing OK but Wigan were only 2 poins ahead of Derby. Birmingham receive 3.5 mil but look how much that is worth now they are relegated.

Graeme Souness snapped him up!! he was also done when managing newcastle, buyin boumsong for 8million!!
Peter Reid also got caught out similarly, bought some guy from a french team on a tip, turned out to be a conference standard player which they played over a million for..
Bosco Ballaban was another!

Eriksson made a lot of costly errors,

I'll never forget that game Kerr took Robbie off when we were two up, that goalkeeper was the most annoying [expletive] ever!!

ye didn't he get Andy O Brien sent off for no reason, that was a horrible game. I can't believe I haven't mentioned Staunton.
Playing Jonathan Douglas centre half and then centre midfield. Playing Finnan left back and O Shea right back, made no sense.

Also another one popped into my head didn't Benitez bring on a full-back in the CL final last year, like Arbeloa or one of them. That was 10 mins to go and he puts on Crouch with 2 mins left. What was that?

I'm a massive Rijkaard fan but I'm going to have to say trying to play Henry out wide when Eto'o & Henry would have been the greatest striker partnership.

I'm about 90% certain if Frank had played Eto'o & Henry up front in a 4 - 4 - 2 then Rijkaard would still have his job and a La Liga title.

Maybe even a Champions League.

How about the 99 Champs League Final? When Bayern's then Manager brought off his 2 best players in the last few minutes so they could receive a standing ovation for winning the cup  my how that backfired, and didnt Baslar look great crying at the end after saluting bthe fans when he went off :D

wenger, making gallas captain:D
Mon Dieu! :D How could I forget that catastrophe! What I don't understand is that normally Wenger hates player confrontation.

Now surely he would have been aware of Gallas' reputation for throwing tantrums, crying etc. Buying him was inexplicable. Making him CAPTAIN...

England v Croatia at Wembley. Crouch had made it 2-2 and we were going to Euro 2008. Terry Venables suggested to McClaren that he should bring on Hargreaves to tighten things up. McClaren decided to drop Defoe into central midfield instead (has he ever played there before?) and we lost 3-2.

McClaren may have won the treble with United but I will never forgive him for making such a naive tactical mistake.
