You cry babies! Chelsea KO was justice for 'diving' says Dunne

Richard Dunne last night claimed Chelsea deserved to be knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona because they are ‘divers’.

As Chelsea continue to bemoan what they see as an injustice at the hands of Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo, Dunne indicated they have only themselves to blame because of some of their past behaviour.

Talking before tomorrow’s derby against Manchester United, Dunne said: ‘The refs have been given rules and they have no option but to punish defenders sometimes. But there are a lot more divers as well. It has crept in more and more, but what goes around comes around. You dive around and teams score against you in injury time.’

Dunne did not specifically refer to Chelsea’s defeat by Barcelona on Wednesday, when Andres Iniesta scored the decisive equaliser in added time, but the Republic of Ireland defender has long been a critic of Didier Drogba, whose behaviour after the semi-final shocked the football world.

Speaking about Drogba in March, Dunne said: ‘I am not an admirer of how Drogba plays the game. It is frustrating when you see your opponent testing the referee.’

Dunne, sent off seven times in his City career, will face another player with a reputation for theatrics at Old Trafford tomorrow, United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portugal winger has been sent off twice against City in his United career and Dunne added: ‘He is the best player in the world and he plays the game to his advantage. At times, he can be running so fast that any nick could send him tumbling. He makes the most of the situation, I suppose. But diving or not diving, he’s impossible to mark when he’s on form.’

UEFA confirmed yesterday they have received referee Ovrebo’s report. They are set to issue charges next week against Drogba, who approached Ovrebo aggressively and
screamed ‘F***ing disgrace’ at TV cameras in the immediate aftermath of the game, as well as Michael Ballack and Jose Bosingwa. All three are likely to be banned for at
least three European matches next season.

Ovrebo’s wife, Bente, said yesterday her husband, who holds a full-time job as a psychologist, was ‘extremely shaken up’.

She added: ‘It is terrifying. Why are people reacting like this? It’s just football.’

Anelka's dive was ridiculous, they lost with a little help from Mr.Karma...
And I agree with him on Ronaldo. IMO, Ronaldo hardly ever dives, he just runs so fast that every touch can knock him to the ground.
He tripped himself up accidentaly.

Anyway Dunne is right about Drogba testing the referee.
He's also right about Ronaldo going so quick that the slightest touch can knock him - not actually diving.
Hopefully Ronnie gives him the run around on Sunday too.:D

Dunne has been really poor this season for Citteh compared to previous years.
I think he has won their fans player of the year for the last 5 years too.

I think that says more about the rest of their team than it does about him :p

Stevie Ireland should win it this year easily.

You've gotta say though, if you dive a lot then your reputation will work against you so that referees will assume you're diving when you're not and therefore may not award you a penalty when they should.

Case of the Boy Who Cried Wolf.

Ronaldo is victim to it, as is Drogba, and they only really have themselves to blame.

Having said that though, the referee still had a complete howler in the Chelsea-Barca game.

agreed there daisy...but when fouls are commited in full view of a ref,not once, twice but loads of times, you can't blame it on reputation...ronnie,and drogba are both very good at play acting ,but if the ref is there, can see whats happening, why doesn't he book them?..if he thought drogba was diving the other night then he should have booked him,not just pretend he didn't see anything...same thing with ronnie...it makes me so angry when people accuse ronnie of diving, but never does he get booked for it,well not often anyway..
